With 2008 in full swing and four good months of cold in the north to endure, we take shelter in the most desirable places. Well, we at Northern X sought out the winter white set of tack photography to see what was new. Complete with music, casual seating arrangements and refreshments, it was nothing less than... boring. That is until we were joined by the beauty, style and grace of someone absolutely Exotic. It was time to shoot. Lights... Camera... Action...
Story Ajani Snelling

NX It's truly an honor to share this set with you Exotic.
Exotic Native The honor is mine and please... Call me Misti.
NX Okay Misti. What I want to do is simply hit you with a few questions. If you feel the need to pose, my man back here will shoot the camera.
That sounds fair. I'm ready when you are.
Wow. That's a great pose. I can tell that you have been modeling for a minute.
You can say that. Mom would have had me modeling at 8, but we couldn't afford
it. It wasn't until a few years back when I was approached by Unlimited Talents that I began to take it more seriously.
Unlimited Talents... That's a Washington based operation. What are you doing in Alaska?
I actually came to Alaska with my husband in the military. He was stationed here so here I am. If Fairbanks wasn't so small and cold, I may be able to deal. Lol.. Seattle is certainly missed.
So if you're not from here, where does the Native in your name come from?
It's funny because people try to figure out my nationality all the time. Is she white, mixed, Hispanic maybe? When they get up the courage to ask, I just smile and say that I'm Cherokee.

Cherokee is just another word for sexy if ya'll didn't know. Misti, I recall meeting you at a function where I coped an EZ Money CD. Isn't your husband behind that?
Yes! My husband (known around Fairbanks as "The SGT" introduced EZ Money to the area because this place desperately needed help on the music tip. It started with selling mixes out of Baltimore and has evolved to introducing and promoting new talents in Fairbanks. Now "EZ Money" is being played almost everywhere.
I was diggin that CD almost as much as I'm diggin this shoot. My copy is old now, but I'm still bumpin it. Where can I pick up some '08 copies?
If you want an EZ Money CD or are looking for some fresh music, you need to contact THE SGT at djthesgt@yahoo.com or come to The Refinery any Friday night for the latest. I'll make sure he sets aside a copy for NX as a birthday gift.

We would appreciate that, even if we have to pay for it. Lol.. It's all about the hustle around here. Now if you don't mind, may I blow out that candle and make a wish?
Ofcourse... Happy Birthday Northern X.

On a warmer than average day in December, we ventured into a new coffee shop off 1st Avenue called Top of the World. Taken instantly by the shops décor, the thought of mocha simply left our thoughts. Burgundy walls encompassed a modest seating area and bar. A black stage lit by track lighting possessed an ebony piano and upright microphone stand. This was clearly a place of entertainment awaiting its turn to shine.
Black velvet curtains separated a number of different rooms within the establishment. The owner encouraged us to look around on the solo tip. That's when the entrance door opened. In walked Kae Cee, the perfect companion for this Northern X café tour.

NX I'm glad you showed up Kae Cee. With all of these rooms, I wouldn't know where
to start.
KC This is my first time here as well, but from the looks of things, I'm sure that we won't get lost. Let's start with curtain number one and just work our way around.
NX Okay... This room reminds me of a VIP gambling area with the Goodfellas picture and circular table. I know you're not a stranger to hosting parties.
KC I used to throw plenty of parties. The majority of which were not even for me. When you're a home owner, its easy to just set a date and watch the crowd manifest.
NX Wait a minute Kae Cee... Why are the majority of parties not for you?

KC When you plan for someone else, its not a disappointment if no one comes. (laughter) Actually, the parties I've thrown for myself have never really went well. Maybe it has something to do with my past. I was a nerd in high school.
"Right now I'm feeling like a cross between a nerd and a Creamsicle Martini."

NX Yeah right. That's like the beautiful woman catch phrase.
KC It's the truth... I don't know. Right now I'm feeling like a cross between a nerd and a Creamsicle Martini. The hocky table in this room adds a tad more vodka to the mix. The green would be more of a lime than orange juice though. Still very sexy... Tempting...
NX I dig the mood of this room as well. It could easily double as a massage parlor. A little music, some lotion and... Kae Cee, you know how to give massages?

KC Hummm, no. (laughter) But I will turn you on to my Body Shop at Home collection. Pepperment Intensive Rescue will have you smelling like a huge piece of hard candy, yet feeling soft as your first kiss.
NX Now that's hot... And so was this little tour. Thanks Kae Cee..
KC No problem. Here's my number. Check out my website and let me place an order for ya.
NX I will soon.

The last time we caught up with SHOO was in our June issue. Now in the month of December, we were certainly surprised by her presents. It was an unseasonably warm day in the Fairbanks area which only translates to "icy roads" for those who know. Anyway, we jumped on a bus to play the tourist, (watching the accidents instead of being the accidents) and like a shimmering glass of lemonade lit by a single ray of sunlight, we encountered her glowing spirit.
Story Ajani Snelling

What's up with you for the holiday season?
I find myself doing some serious planning. Pretty much staying out of the way of the holiday crowd, but 'back to the drawing board' type thinking if you know what I mean.
Are you not really a holiday person? Not myself, although there are a few individuals that I do plan on spoiling a bit. This time of the year for me is really about focusing on the spring events. Up and coming photo shoots, business planning, calendar events, the list goes on and on...
Okay Shoo, we've lost contact for a minute and I had to come on a bus to find you. Is this the sexy woman meeting place?
Lol... No, I like to take the bus every now and then in this tiny town to collect my thoughts. Since it doesn't take 20 minutes to get anywhere here, the bus system enables me to exercise my patience.
I understand that this is your first winter here in Alaska. How are you dealing with it?
I'm surviving.(smile) Actually, the only time I'm bothered by the cold is when scrapping the ice off of my windshield. I refuse to get used to that task. However, the darkness throughout the day can be very relaxing. I'm a night owl myself.
Before we come to your stop, the question has to be asked. Are you still in a relationship?
Yes sweetie... I'm engaged. This is my stop, but I promise to keep you more informed on my moves within the community. I will also talk to you later about a video interview like the one you've done of KT the Poet. That was hot and I want to add to the magic. Chow

The stage is set and the presence of Mary Jane is everywhere. It's her first shoot, so there is excitement as well as nervousness in her eyes. In the company of an experienced modeling coach, an easy going camera man and her supportive boyfriend, she soon relaxes her body. The poses became stimulating... The eyes low and seductive... Her actions broken down, removed of seeds, and rolled to perfection... Within the short session of a two hour period, Northern X found out exactly what make this budding star STRAIGHT LACED...
Story Ajani Snelling
NX Have you ever modeled before? MARY JANE No, I hunt. Modeling is actually something new to me. I've always watched America's Top Model and thought, damn that looks like fun. I could do that. But actually modeling, it's a lot more than fun. It's hard work.
Why did you choose to try it now?
Well... If I had the opportunity to do it 3 or 4 years ago, I would have. It's a blessing that I've been given the chance to do it now.
Tell us about your poetry.
My poetry... I write tons of poetry. 90% of it is based upon my life as a child or just coming up as a teenager. Some of it is about so-called friends I had. During hard times, I realized who was there and who wasn't. Then there are poems about my boyfriend. He is my hero. Without him, I kind of wonder where I'd be now.
What are your musical interest?
I like all types of music. R&B, Rap, Gospel, even Country.
Are you part of a musical group?
Not at this time, but possibly in the near future. If not a Journalist or WNBA star, I would like to put my talent out there for others to hear.
Does basketball help you to vent?
Yes!! That's my sport! I've been ballin since I was in the 3rd grade. My older brothers used to play. At that time, I knew nothing about the sport. Now when I step out on the court, my mind instantly feels free. All I think about is the ball and the hoop. When I challenge people, they look at me like, "gurl, you can't ball", then I get then on the court and "J" on them. (laugh)

"gurl, you can't ball", then I get them on the court and "J" on them. (laugh)
Explain the drama that has made you a stronger person. There's a lot of drama everywhere you go. It's just like swimming. You get pushed in having no choice but to sink or flout. My situation is very similar. I wish to make it in life, so I continue to do what I have to do. You just can't sit around and expect someone / anyone to do everything for you.
